Claire Dawson

Claire Dawson is an award-winning podiatrist and the proud founder of Birtley Foot Clinic. A graduate of the Durham School of Podiatric Medicine in 2014, Claire achieved a first-class honours degree and was recognised as Student of the Year for two consecutive years. Following this, she furthered her medical expertise with a degree in Medical Studies from Newcastle University and specialised training in advanced techniques such as verruca needling and the Lacuna method for nail fenestration.

Claire’s journey into podiatry was inspired by her own struggles with ingrowing toenails during her active youth, where she played high-impact sports and endured countless foot injuries. A transformative experience with a local chiropodist not only resolved her pain but also ignited her passion for podiatry. Determined to pursue a hands-on healthcare career, Claire gained invaluable experience through home visits, locum roles, and working in various clinics across the North East and Yorkshire.

For four years, Claire served as a podiatrist for offender health, where she honed her skills in wound care and developed a deep understanding of the link between mental and physical health. This role fostered her creativity and adaptability, equipping her with the confidence to establish her own clinic in January 2019.

Claire has a particular interest in nail removal surgery, verruca needling, and injection therapy, alongside her broad expertise in diabetic care and wound management. Her dedication and excellence have been recognised with numerous awards, including Podiatrist of the Year (2021), Most Dedicated Podiatrist (2022), and Best Local Podiatrist (2024)

Beyond clinical care, Claire leads her team with a focus on fostering a supportive and family-like atmosphere. She is actively involved in the clinic’s operations, from mentoring her team to managing finances and marketing. Claire ensures continuous professional development for herself and her team by attending industry conferences, training sessions, and monthly case discussions.

When not in the clinic, Claire enjoys staying active at the gym and playing netball, believing in the positive impact of exercise on mental well-being. Her leadership and team-first philosophy create a welcoming environment for both patients and staff, ensuring that Birtley Foot Clinic remains a trusted name in the local community.
